Travel-Shots Newsletter

Hello Everyone

Over the holidays we spent time reflecting "Why do we do travel photography?" We came up with 10 our ideas included; becoming a Global Citizen, learning about various cultures, peoples, and lifestyles, and taking some fantastic photographs!!

The thing is - We like travel, photography and the stories our pictures tell. Seeing the world, meeting people, and sharing experiences makes almost any journey an opportunity for a transformative encounter.  For more of our thoughts about travel photography, please visit the the Blog page on our Web Site.

Summer 2026

Sail 250 is coming to Boston this summer. The event starts in New Orleans on May 28 and finishes up July 11 to 16 in Boston. Our featured photo is the USS Constitution, nicknamed "Old Ironsides" on a winter day in January. She sits alone in her home port in Charlestown, a historic neighborhood in the City of Boston.

Over 40 Tall Ships and Military Ships from all over the world are planned on being part of the event. Although only rotated yearly for wear and tear, the Constitution should be sailing the harbor with the other Tall Ships. By the way the Old Ironsides nickname is from the War of 1812 where its oak sides were so thick canon balls were bouncing of her sides.

Frescoes

Frescos are known in the art world as a technique or style. After admiring them all over Europe the question kept coming up - What are Frescoes. We took a look at them this month and learned some interesting info. Check out our Blog.

Old Stuff

Part of my winter work has been organizing old photos. In the process a number of overlooked images surfaced and when combined with a better Photoshop and Lightroom technique have produced some likable photos. These two were taken on a quick trip to Cancun in December of 2017. The top is a towel or facecloth the room staff made for the rooms. Number 2 is a wall carving at Chichen-Itza, the ancient Mayan Pyramids about a 2 hour ride up the Yucatan Peninsula.

Chichen-Itza's main attraction is the Kukulkan Pyramid (El Castillo) What's memorable is the pyramid's audio capabilities. After clapping your hands in certain outside areas the sound travels inside and is naturally amplified by the design of the steps and walls with a resulting sound mimicking the chirping of the Quetzal Bird. The Quetzal was worshipped by the Mayans and symbolized freedom, beauty and wealth. Fascinating!!
