In this example we used a different process to create the motion. Rather than move the camera we mount it on a tripod. The strategy is to slow down the camera shutter so the action is moving faster than the shutter.

Visualize our finished images with matting and framing. To some it makes a big difference in their selection process. If you are a fan of matting, as am I, it helps separate the image from the surroundings and establish a presence.

What we saw when taking this shot was a feeling of motion. To capture it a technique called panning or moving the camera with the motion was used. In this case the gull is the subject and panning with it creates motion and the resulting blur in the background.
