There is a resident Blue Heron on the Charles River in Natick, MA. I met a few people there who pointed it out, mentioning that this bird is one of two that frequent the area. Despite the beauty of Blue Herons, they seem to prefer locations that are less appealing, such as:
Wetlands: Includes marshes, swamps, ponds, and lakes.
Coastal: Estuaries with saltwater, tidal flats, and mangrove swamps.
Rivers: Desert streams and slow-moving rivers.
Urban/Open: They often hunt in flooded fields and irrigation ditches, and may even visit backyard fish ponds.
Sunday mornings are typically peaceful, offering a perfect chance to observe local wildlife while others sleep in. Visit my website for more photos from the area, featuring geese and waterfalls.
