Street Photography

I walk by this spot when I go into Boston's Seaport. Looking into an atrium of sorts and it is a street level pub. The TV Display overlooking the bar is massive. With its big windows, modern metal structure, reflections, the TV, people in the Pub and all kinds of action, I always thought there was a good shot to be had and figured one day I’d bring my camera with me.

On this day, the World Cup was in town and Boston had people visiting from all over the world. It was a super-nice day, so I stopped and watched the news talking about the World Cup happenings. The image set itself up naturally and without my camera I grabbed the iPhone and shot a series of approximately twenty shots. About 3 months later and a second review I found this one in the mix. The beauty of the iPhone as a backup is the HEIC files go right into Lightroom for retouch and enhancements.

What I like about Street Photography is the real life, “unstagged-ness” of the shots and a resulting image capture that is beyond being just a snapshot. What I like about this image is the subject looking almost 3D and the feeling of although she is on TV and in the news, she is looking out at the pub's patrons.

For the contest I called it "Watching TV" but it makes me wonder who is watching who? Others liked it too as the image won and "Honorable Mention" in the "7 International Photography Awards" contest.
