Local Color - In art, its the natural color of a thing in ordinary daylight and uninfluenced by its proximity to other colors or subject to the artists interpretation or preferences. The natural color image to the right is a thin layer of pond ice, reflections and a leaf. Where its mid-November and just getting cold, we'll call it "First Ice".

Our shoot for these photos was a photo-walk nearby with a partly cloudy/partly sunny balance of light that's almost perfect for photography. The day started out with the idea of the Boston images using a new telephoto lens. The shot of the Skyline, Back Bay in this case, has always been there but a missed opportunity without the lens.

The tree with the mushroom wrap is another image from the shoot. Using the telephoto from a few steps back "compresses" the image where the foreground is in-focus, we add dimension, but we loose background detail and depth of field. The effect draws the eye to the subject yet the background is present enough to establish the setting.

Some days turn out to be better than expected, and this was one of them. All three images fit the "local color" definition where the color is as shot. They do use our standard tweaks for shading, clarity and texture to make RAW file (uncompressed and unprocessed) "printable" to appear like a JPEG . Both the skyline and mushrooms shots worked. The "First Ice" shot was a bonus.
