Take the Shot

The phrase fits into life in many situations such as sports, jobs, love, and yes, even photography. I can’t tell you how many times I told my Hockey Team to take the shot. When they did, they usually won. Jobs, the stock market, promotions are all opportunities where you need to take the shot, take a chance, to make happen. Love, well enough said.
In photography we usually think of action shots that usually happen fast and fleeting. What comes to mind is a famous person in a candid gesture or moment, an animal pouncing on another animal, or timing a horse race with the winner by a nose. Not taking these shots is about a missed opportunity.
In this case we are looking at a flower. Not a Venus Flytrap at work but a Hibiscus. With the average bud lasting a day or two our Hibiscus is fleeting. Not quick moving like an animal or person but will if you don’t “Take the Shot”, you might miss the opportunity of this splendid stationary plant. And each plant only has so many buds per cycle.
This lucky plant lives on our deck. Lucky because it gets plenty of light and is properly fed and watered. Nice flower, nice day, sunshine – take the shot. The next day the bud shriveled up and was gone. It looks like more buds are coming but this one was a good looker. Welcome to summer!!
