"Next Step"

Sometimes it pays to take a second look at an image, or shoot. Today's photo was shot in Derry Ireland in May of 2024. While it was likeable in color, converting to Black and White added an artistic feel rather than a snapshot. What's nice about Black and White is the ability to work shadows and contrast for a real effect. In this case the objective was to use the perspective and effects and get that stepping down into the water feeling.

Strongly recommend looking at images from the past year or so. When you find a shot you liked but didn't live up to your expectations with a little creativity you can find what you envisioned. Converting to Black and White transitions the shot from the reality of color to using tone, shadows, focal points and whites. Using the above to create a feeling of depth and dimension is what early photographers did, given black and white was the only option.

In today's world of mirrorless cameras the photographer has the option of printing in color or black and white. No limitations of film used for the shoot. The camera captures the data and the photographer makes the call, works the images in a program such as Photoshop and Lightroom having control of the printing process.
