To help illustrate my Construction Photography services, I am sharing a personal project currently underway. We have recently moved into a townhouse that's about 30 years old. Most of the newer units we found had smaller rooms and smaller total square footage. Going with this solution prompted us to come up with a plan for some immediate updating and remodeling. The day after we closed on the townhouse, we did a walkthrough with our architect.

It’s been a busy summer working with the architects on design and engineering, shopping for cabinetry, fixtures, appliances, materials, and colors. Along the way, we interviewed contractors, bid out and awarded the project, and worked with the design team. Despite this, we managed to beat our target start date by 2 days. Day #1 of construction was last week and where it's a live in project, the “invasion” has begun.

Today's photos showcase the evolution of the site from its original state to the framing stage and its new design. The first image depicts an attic-style pull-down ladder used to access my office loft. The room had separate entrances for the master bath and walk-in closet, leaving the front wall as "dead space" that was impractical for placing furniture. Climbing up and down the ladder to my loft office multiple times a day had become quite unnerving. It's a relief to be saying goodbye to this arrangement.

Working with our architect, we considered different design possibilities before deciding on a practical and elegant solution. The second picture displays the new staircase and the early phases of an updated entrance to the Master Suite. Instead of individual doors, the redesigned suite includes a single entrance leading to the private dressing area and a full bathroom. This is just one of the creative concepts developed by the team.

Meanwhile, I have been looking for a niche specialization to build up my photography practice.  As a Project Manager I have worked on hundreds of commercial build outs and have taken thousands of photos. Quality photography is essential for reports, presentations, and marketing purposes. The ongoing renovation project is a chance for me to combine my love of photography with the construction process. Stay tuned for our next series of photos.
