Benevento proved to be an unexpected surprise. Family roots having a simple background were there. Before visiting I had learned about the Arco di Traiano that was built between 114 and 117 AD. The Arch was built to honor the empower Trajan who ruled Rome from 98 to 117 and one if its greatest military expansions. What we found was a city with a long history of being a Roman getaway, churches dating back to the 8th century, frescos, restaurants and shopping and an artistic culture.
