The Common and Public Garden were early greenspaces in downtown Boston. The Common dates back to 1634 when the Puritans used the area for a grazing pasture. The Public Garden dates back to 1839 with a claim of being the first public botanical garden in America. The area is build on reclaimed tidal flats and today offers a great escape from the city. Both spaces are designated as National Historic Landmarks and are easily accessible for visitors and tourists.
