What we do is Travel Photography. Influenced by Impressionism Artists, my style builds on the moment using light, brushstrokes, textures and relative color to express a scene and its beauty. It may be sedate, show action, or intricate detail. Take a deep breath, relax and put yourself in the scene passing time and enjoying a timeless quality.
Why Travel Photography? The name implies the photographer is dancing around the globe shooting pictures of tourist spots. There’s some truth to the globe-trotter bit, but Travel Photography is a much broader scope. A good portfolio includes landscape, architecture, culture, people, and street scenes. It’s the things and scenes we see when travelling abroad or locally at home.
There’s more to travel photography as photos can include a narrative ranging from history to how you got to a certain location. What makes travel interesting is going “off piste” which is a French term for skiing off the main trails and out of bounds. The story can be about the scene; or the taste of a food or wine, to enjoy the sunshine and its warmth etc. Perhaps you are reliving a memory or building the desire to be in the scene and live the experience.
Unlike the perfect picture approach to landscape photography, travel photography captures the scene and the moment inviting the viewer into the picture. Adding life to a shot is something that differentiates travel from a landscape or architectural shot. Think of a person looking at a building as opposed to a building. And a mountain biker riding on a trail rather than a “still life” of the trail. Or sunbathing on a beach. It’s what you see when you travel.
